Fan Girl Freak Show: Day 3

Six days till I depart and make the 1,076 mile trek (one way) to see Shane Koyczan at the RMFF (Rocky Mountain Folks Festival). Last night I was compelled to buy two of his books (something I’ve been meaning to do for a while) and embrace the fact that I am going to be “that girl” and wear a Shane Shirt to the performance.

I’m totally freaking out too. Not because I’m excited (that’s a given) but because I’ve never done anything like this before. I’ve never been to a music festival – especially one where you have to camp out at. I’ve never allowed myself to go full-fan-girl over someone (much less shared it with the whole wide inter-webs). I’ve never driven over a thousand miles to satisfy a need to experience what I believe is an expression of art and beauty. I’ve never just said, “Fuck It! I’m doing this!” to something that would appear so trivial to someone else, yet so meaningful to me. This act is an indulgence of my spirit. I am tossing out all logic blocks and I am doing this for one reason and one reason only – BECAUSE I WANT TO.

I want to, because I believe it will be a supremely joyous time…and even if it isn’t…it’s going to be one hell of an adventure with the lesson, “do what makes your heart happy” attached to it.

Not to mention, I’m pretty sure I’ll remember this trip for the rest of my life instead of all the bullshit mediocrity I tend to fill my days with.

Fuck You, Fear, Doubt, Insecurity and Guilt!
I’m going on an adventure. It’s my life and it’s time to start exchanging my days for something of value.
