If you thought it, you can un-think it.
What the fuck is THAT suppose to mean?
It means that you create your own bullshit. We think something, and often times that thought has some heavy emotions attached to it and BAM! suddenly, your thought becomes your truth.
Not convinced? Well, every time you think you suck at something or that something is impossible, or that all your problems are because of this person or that person or because someone didn’t love you enough, or that you are too fat, too old, too young, too ugly, too stupid, too whatever, you create your own limiting belief(s). Let me tell you my dear friend, those limiting beliefs, THEY are what is fucking up your life. Ditch the limiting belief and everything shifts. Things change and suddenly you find your life not so fucked-up as it was before. Heck, even believing your life is fucked is a limiting belief. I mean sure, we all make mistakes (and that’s a post for another day) but bottom line is that you can fix the mistakes, you can move forward from the ones that are un-fixable, you can forgive yourself and anyone else you need to and you can rethink that thought that you believe to be true (which in fact, isn’t).
I have this limiting belief that is currently in transformation (which really means that I’m working my ass off to change it).
My limiting belief has me think thoughts like:
- I’m not good enough to be a writer
- I’ll make a fool of myself
- Everyone will think my ideas are stooopid
- I don’t have anything important/meaningful to say
- blah, blah, blah, blah
My limiting belief (in this case) is FEAR OF JUDGEMENT. I am afraid of the unknown (after all, you guys could think I’m fan-fucking-tastic – or maybe not). I have been so afraid of this unknown judgement that I have put my dreams and desires into a neat little box and shut them up tight never see the light of day. Because I don’t believe that I am good enough, I have spent most of my life denying my heart’s desire. And if I had to guess, you may have done the same thing too.
THAT. IS. FUCKED. UP.
That is the power of limiting beliefs.
Maybe you want to draw, dance, paint, play an instrument, start a business, learn to twerk, write a best seller, be a poet, sing, be a professional chef, win a Nobel Prize, run for office, sculpt, knit, be a thong model, be on the radio, act, invent, blog, garden, go back to school, be a photographer, WHATEVER. There is something your heart desires and there is something that is keeping you from it. That something is your limiting belief(s).
You can’t because you have bills to pay.
You can’t because you have small kids at home.
You can’t because you can’t afford it.
You can’t because your parents wouldn’t approve.
You can’t because your spouse / partner / sibling(s) / significant other wouldn’t approve.
You can’t because you will make a fool of yourself.
You can’t because you don’t know enough.
You can’t because you aren’t smart enough.
You can’t because you aren’t talented enough.
You can’t because you aren’t creative enough.
You can’t because you have thought yourself exactly into that place of NOT DOING ANYTHING. It’s time to suck it up Buttercup and embrace the fact that YOU CAN.
Stop thinking that you can’t and start thinking I can.
You thought it. You can un-think it or re-think it or undo it or whatever word works for you, but you can.
It really is THAT simple.
Think it with me, hell, better yet, say it out loud.
I will. I will. I will. I will.
Rethinking it is the first step. If you are having trouble, think back to when you were a kid. KIDS DON’T GIVE A SHIT! They just do shit. You used to be that way. Pause for a moment and remember what that felt like.
Then you have to act. You have to kick that limiting belief out of your way and do something.
Maybe you watch a YouTube video. Maybe you start reading about how others did it. Maybe you practice visualization (more on that in a future post), maybe you find the biggest ass-hat you know who also happens to be doing what you want to do and you finally connect the dots and say, “If that asshole can do it, I know I can!”
Limiting beliefs are the worst kind of mind fuck there is. You create them. You believe them. You live by them. THEN you wish that your life was different and whine that you don’t know what to do or how to do it. Mind-fuckery at it’s best.
Take me for example, I’m a nobody. Just some bitch from Texas who decided she wanted her life to be an adventure. I quit my job and I started my own business back in 2005 (for the third time), divorced my ex-husband in 2010, dipped my toe in the blog sphere in 2013 and ended up on national tv because of one little post I wrote about how I wash my mother fucking hair! I am just like you. I am still fighting against my limiting beliefs. THIS blog is a really big step for me. Why? Because I’m talking to you like I would if we were sitting on the back porch having a beer. I’m just being me. Like it or leave it. THIS blog is the petri dish where I am experimenting with my life’s dream…finding my voice…honing my focus…figuring out what I really want to do. I don’t have it all figured out yet. I don’t have all the answers. What I have is the will and desire to change my thinking so I can unpack my dreams and life the life I want to create.
I want that for you too.
I want you to understand that it really is THAT simple: If you thought it, you can un-think it.
Change your thoughts, change your life.
Just sit with this for a while. Pick up the idea, look at it, try it on. See how it feels. Take it for a test drive. Get comfortable with the understanding that you have the power to un-fuck your life. No one else does. Just you. Not even winning the lottery will change your limiting beliefs. They are your beliefs. They are yours to change.
And you can.
Move along, citizen. That is all.
